June sessions

The theme for the Thursday of Carers Week focuses on work. We’ll be joined by Carers UK volunteers Vic, Sarah and Tamara who will talk about life as working carers, the challenges they face and tips that will help you to juggle work and caring. You will then be welcome to ask questions and share your experiences. Book here

When we find ourselves in a caring role, we are never truly prepared – often learning the hard way, on our own. Award-winning author of ‘Who Cares?’, Sara Challice shares the issues carers face, along with her insights into why these problems happen and how we can overcome them – helping make your life easier. Join Squid, a multidisciplinary artist who has run creative activities and workshops since 2011, including for LGBTIQ+ people, neurodivergent writers, and East and Southeast Asian people. In this session, Squid will share some inspirational pieces (such as poetry/art/music) and participants will be invited to respond by telling a story or by writing or sketching something and sharing it. The theme of 'water' will be used to help you draw on personal anecdotes, travel memories and emotions. There will be an opportunity for feedback and discussion. Book here

Join us for a talk from Marnie, Volunteering Development Officer at Epilepsy Action. This session aims to build understanding of epilepsy, a neurological condition that affects around 1 in 100 people in the UK. It will explain what epilepsy is, the different types of seizures, and how epilepsy can affect people in very different ways. We’ll explore common myths and misconceptions, helping to challenge stigma and increase confidence around epilepsy. You’ll also hear first-hand lived experience of epilepsy, alongside learning about some of the challenges people may face around work, education, mental health, and accessing healthcare. The talk will highlight the support available through Epilepsy Action, and the work they do to improve understanding, provide practical advice, and campaign for better services. Book here

Join this online live session delivered by Carers UK and the gardening charity, Thrive to kickstart the Green Care for You campaign. This session will demonstrate how gardening supports physical and mental wellbeing as well as equip you with some simple, repeatable exercises and stretches to garden safely and help build strength, balance, and flexibility. Make a cup of tea, get cosy and join us for the second in a series of two workshops on writing and telling your stories. Join writer and teacher Andrew Kauffmann in a safe space to explore what you'd like to write, given the possibility. Based on gentle prompts to stimulate new writing, this is an intimate and private place to pause, get creative and explore what you might want to express, be it in a journal, or through creative writing. So grab a pen, or prepare to type away. This is a confidential place to begin writing down what feels timely and topical for you. There will also be a brief opportunity to jointly read a carer's account and discuss their story. Book here

July sessions

Join us for a talk with Kane, Regional Involvement Coordinator at Rethink Mental Illness. Kane oversees a network of peer support groups that provide safe, welcoming spaces for people affected by mental illness. In this session, he will share how peer support groups can reduce isolation, build confidence, and empower individuals and carers through mutual understanding and shared learning. This session will also explore the practicalities of developing and sustaining peer support services, the impact they can have on local communities, and the role they play within the wider mental health support landscape. Join us for a talk with Arthritis UK to find out more about arthritis, a condition that many of us live with every day. This session is designed for anyone who wants to better understand arthritis—whether you’re newly diagnosed, have been living with it for years, or simply want to learn more. It will cover the different types of arthritis and their treatments, explore how arthritis impacts daily life—including work—and discuss what steps you can take to manage symptoms. The session will also highlight the support available through Arthritis UK and the ways you can get involved. Book here

Join us for a second session with Arthritis UK to help understand the difference between acute and chronic pain. Being able to understand your pain and communicate this to family, friends, health care professionals, and employers can make a big difference to your condition. This session will introduce the concept of the pain cycle and the impact this has on your life. The talk considers possible triggers and how you can use self-management skills to manage these, planning and pacing so you can continue to live your life well. Book here

Join us for a talk with Anjula Devi, an Indian chef and author known for her powerful blend of connection, empowerment, and storytelling through food. Anjula has captivated audiences with her recipes and the personal stories behind them, and we are delighted that she is delivering this session as part of Carers UK's celebration of South Asian Heritage month, for which the 2026 theme is 'Unity in Diversity'. Beyond her role as a chef and author, Anjula is passionate about raising awareness of carers, who she feels are the unsung heroes in our society. Having been a carer for her sister for over 20 years, she understands first-hand the reality of caring: the constant worry, sleepless nights, endless paperwork, and the unrelenting cycle of health appointments. Her lived experience drives her commitment to ensuring carers are appropriately recognised, supported, and given the respite and compassion they so deeply deserve. Book here

Join Priya our Helpline advisor who will provide an overview of social care assessments for adults who may require care and support. The session will focus on the purpose of the assessment, how eligibility for support is determined and outcomes. We will also focus on how to challenge decisions made and how to best prepare for the assessment, including involvement of carers and family members. Book here
