Introduction

The use of technology has become habitual in our everyday lives. However, many of us may not realise its full potential and the different options available to help with caring.

There are many different ways technology can help make life easier for people to live more independently, whether you are looking after them or they rely on professional support. These options can also give peace of mind and free up more of your time as a carer.

You may not need some of this tech or equipment at the moment, but it could be useful to know what’s available and what may help in the future.

   Digital
switchover

Across the UK, landlines are being moved to a new digital system
. Other equipment, such as assisted-living devices, may also be affected. For example, they might need to be upgraded to continue working properly.

Your phone provider should contact you if you have a landline before the switchover happens. If you have a device that could be affected, such as a personal alarm, you could contact the supplier for guidance and peace of mind.

The digital switchover is happening gradually and should be completed by the end of January in 2027. See this gov.uk page for more details as well as our partnership with BT.
