Suzanne lives in Berkshire and currently cares full-time for three members of her family; her teenage daughter and 25-year-old son who both have multiple complex health needs and her husband who has mental health conditions.
Her daughter is diabetic and severely immuno-compromised. Because of this Suzanne says she always has the annual flu vaccination.
“We don’t want to carry the risk of passing anything onto our daughter. She is already vulnerable as she is out in the community receiving education and this helps us provide some protection for her - as well as for the rest of the family.”
“The flu vaccination is something that is very straightforward that I get done every year. I have had the jab at the chemist if the GP is busy, but we don’t usually have any problem getting a slot as our practice is very supportive. It’s quick and it’s easy. It’s really important to me as a carer and I’d say to any other carer, you’re entitled to it, just get it done. It’s a simple thing to do to protect your family and the vulnerable people in your community.”
Our theme for Carers Rights Day 2025 is 'Know your rights, use your rights.'
