Your regular donation is taken from your salary before tax is deducted, making it an easy and convenient way to give. And because it’s a regular amount without any restrictions, it provides us with a regular and unrestricted income, which is so vital.

It’s simple to get started. Check that your employer has a workplace giving scheme. If they have one in place you can simply sign up to Payroll Giving by completing this online form.

Six simple steps to making Payroll Giving happen in your workplace
Donating through Payroll Giving is simple and tax efficient. Here are six simple steps to making it happen in your workplace.
1: Understand the benefits
Giving through payroll is the most tax efficient way for people to support us. And because donations are taken before tax, it will cost up to 50 per cent less.

2: Choose your agency
You (the employer) will need to sign up with an approved Payroll Giving Agency (PGA). It’s a really easy process and the agency will help you to get set up.
We suggest getting in touch with Charitable Giving, Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) or Charities Trust, but there are others too. For more options take a look at the HMRC website.
3: Promote, promote, promote
Tell your employees about the scheme and encourage them to sign up. Send emails, put up posters, promote in internal newsletters and provide them with forms provided by the PGA. The employee then sends their completed form to the PGA.
You could arrange for a Professional Fundraising Organisation (PFO) to visit. They have a contractual agreement with their client charities and undertake workplace campaigns, representing a ‘basket of charities’ for employees to select from. The Association of Payroll Giving Organisations has a list.
4: Payroll giving process
Once an employee has signed up to the scheme, you (the employer) deducts the authorised amount from the employees pay before deducting tax under PAYE and sends the payment to your chosen PGA on every payroll run. The donations are then distributed by the PGA to Carers UK and any other charities your employees’ have nominated.

6: Celebrate your achievements
The Payroll Giving Quality Mark is a Government supported benchmarking scheme celebrating the achievements of employers that have adopted and successfully promoted Payroll Giving to their employees.
Every employer offering Payroll Giving can receive a Quality Mark. Simply talk to your PGA to find out more.
There are six levels of Quality Mark to achieve - the symbol identifies businesses that are supportive of workplace giving.
Employers will have the opportunity to achieve a Bronze Award (at least 1% uptake), Silver Award (at least 5% uptake), Gold Award (at least 10% uptake), Platinum Award (at least 20% uptake) or Diamond Award (at least 30% uptake) continually striving to increase donations through Payroll Giving Quality Award Mark.
